I did a video monologue about Miss California , Carrie Prejean and her anti-gay marriage opinions earlier in the week, at the time I felt as though what she said wasn't that bad. I don't agree with her but this is America & everyone is entitled to their opinions. However, her recent statements during an interview have caused me to withdrawal my support for her.
She stated that she believes "being gay is a choice and that people are not born gay". Instead, she believes that being gay is "a behavior that develops over time."
Prejean also reveals that "the way that I was brought up, that was not an option" to be gay.
I have a lot of sympathy for people who struggle about "coming out" or even just accepting themselves because of their sexuality. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose friends and even family members or something as silly as who you are attracted too. I believe that people would NEVER choose a type of lifestyle that would cause you so much hardship and discrimination. I can't help my attraction to men and I don't believe homosexuals are any different. I feel so thankful to be blessed with parents and a family that would support me regardless of who I dated or loved and would only want me to be happy. I think that while it is okay not to support gay marriage for whatever reason, discrimination and ignorance are never acceptable.
