Perez Hilton

After discussing my ignorance for all things celebrity with my mom she suggested Perez Hilton's website (http://www.perezhilton.com) Now I think I may actually jump on this band wagon! "Perez Hilton" is actually Mario Armando Lavandeira, Jr, formally a journalist "Perez" now runs celebrity gossip website. The site is very funny! He draws doodles and words on some celeb's pictures-he both pokes fun at and compliments people in the media spotlight. His articles and comments are both truthful and hilarious. My favorite part are the "buzz words" used such as, "LOLtastic", "shiteous", and Shia "LaDouche."

Entering the realm of celebrity gossip...

I arrived at http://www.tmz.com this afternoon to peruse through my first high dose of celebrity news. The article I come across is a picture of Alex Rodriguez (A-Rod) dolling out dollar bills from an enormous stack. As I view the video it looks as though three, random men approach Rodriguez and he just starts handing out the cash! I don't find the amount of money he has to be the news here. After all, he is the power-hitting third basemen for one of the most successful teams in Major League baseball. Its the fact that by simply approaching A-Rod you will receive a cash reward. Also in breaking celebrity "news" Jake Gyllenhaal spit on the sidewalk after leaving an L.A. court this morning...Maybe it is just because it is my first visit to the site but I still don't understand how this could fascinate anyone! The only thing I found remotely amusing was the "Butterface" photo gallery; You can scan through pictures of celebrities bodies with no heads and then have to guess who's body belongs to who. The joke being that everything is attractive on the women "but-her-face." Although I played along I still found it pretty sick and shallow.
I am however, excited to have something to chat with my mom about!!

1st blog!

Hello!
My name is Meghan Babbe, I'm a communications major and a junior here at SDSU. For my digital production class I have to start a blog about something media related. I'm anxious about this because I've never blogged before! But I have landed on a topic...
My mom is your average, Midwestern mom. Married my Dad when she was twenty, stayed at home and raised my two younger brothers and myself. She was always at in the stands, supporting us in whatever activity it was that we were participating in. Yeah, she is not much different from any one else's mom EXCEPT...She is OBSESSED with celebrity gossip! She checks TMZ daily and more than half of our phone conversations start with "Oh my gosh, did you hear about Brad and Angelina!?" I personally have never taken a real interest in the lives of the rich and famous, but I'm curious to see what possess my South Dakota born and raised mother so I'll be looking at TMZ and celebrity gossip!!!
