New MTV shows

This past season MTV has unleashed a barrage of new television shows. Some good and some not so good. Here are my opinions about them.

Take the Stage: an inside look at the students of a prestige Cincinnati performing art school. Follows the students lives through normal high school things like broken hearts and dramatic friendships to out of the ordinary things like students preparing to audition for Julliard and rehearsing steps for the school's talent competition. I think this show is so-so. While watching the students perform is a lot of fun because they all are very talented some of the energy seems to really lag and the interactions between the students seems pushed. I'd rather them focus more on what the classes are like etc. then the relationships but what kind of reality show would that be??

Bully Beatdown: People who can apparently not stand up for themselves at all hire professional mixed-martial artist Jason "Mayhem" Miller to set up their bullies with a professional fighter in a cage match. For every "tap-out" the victims of the bully get money. Not only is this show pointless but the host is SUPER annoying!! He's not funny, charming or even bright. Grown men appear on the show to talk about how their mean roommate has made their lives difficult. Its totally ridiculous-boooo!

Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory: Follows professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek around showcasing what his life is like. He is hilarious! He obviously was very good at skateboarding because he does nothing but play jokes on his friends and goof around. He even flies him and his cousin out to Hawaii on an impromptu trip. It's an un-drama filled good time and I love it.

Nitro Circus: Think Jackass but without all the naked man-ass. These guys can do incredible things that you would have never thought possible! They are all professional skaters/snowboarders/bikers and adrenaline junkies just looking for the next big thrill. Its fun to watch. http://http://www.mtv.com/ontv/dyn/fantasy_factory/series.jhtml

Where the Wild Things Are

I found out this week that one of my FAVORITE books as a child is being made into a movie! "Where the Wild Things Are" is being directed by Spike Jonze. While the book was only ten sentences long it is regarded as a classic. http://http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/booksblog/2009/mar/26/booksforchildrenandteenagers
I thought the trailer (found in the like above) looked neat but I worry that it may stray into strange and alienate some audiences from understanding/liking it. I feel as though young children might not enjoy the film as much as the book and that the movie is meant for slightly older people. I'm also kind of curious where the story will go in the movie. As I mentioned before the book was only ten sentences and was a quick story. I worry that they will ruin on of my favorite books :( But I look forward to it!
Also coming out this spring- Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I loved the first Transformers and think the plot of this next one will be exciting; When Sam Witwicky (LaBeouf) learns something about the origins of the Transformers, the Decepticons return to Earth to kidnap him. Optimus Prime forms an alliance with international armies to join Sam in the second epic battle to protect mankind http://http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29517276/
Another movie I'm anxious to see is "Up" by Pixar. Its the story of an old man who ties ballons to his house to fly away but has a young boy scout as an accidental stow-away. Pixar makes such great, family movies. I have yet to see a Pixar film that I didn't like.
I also think that "The Soloist" with Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx has the potential to either be really great or really suck. I think Downey was amazing in Iron Man so we will see....

April Fool's...

I live in an apartment with three other girls. Unfortunatley, two of them are really sucky. Luckily for me though, I have one totally amazing roommate! Her and I like all the same things, one of them being pranks. We love nothing more than to do random things in our apartment that confused and frusterate our other roommates. One night we unscrewed ALL the lightbulbs and sat in waiting. Hearing them curse and stumble around in the darkness is one of my favorite memories. We also stuck post-it notes around the kitchen that said things like "Get lizard out of water heater." They stayed up for weeks and multiplied. We put butter on our door-knob, took our closet door off and used it as a table, started 2 in the afternoon karoke and removed all the decorations from our living room..only to replace them the next day..all upside down. So needless to say we are anticipating our April Fool's prank. Here are our ideas so far:
1.) Butter the floor and unscrew the lightbulbs.
2.) Put a lifesaver in the shower heads. They wont' notice anything until they come out of the shower, incredibly sticky.
3.) Put IceeHot on the toilet seats.
4.) Buy pregnancy tests and dispose of them in the bathroom we all share.
5.) Hide everyones shoes...except for ours of course.
6.) Hook the horn in their car to their brake.http://http://www.funmunch.com/events/april_fools_day/april_fools_day_pranks.shtml
7.) Re-decorate our living room with half-naked men.
8.) Set an alarm for very early in the morning and hide it.
And we wonder why they are so unpleasant...hmmm

Stuff White People Like...

I work at T.V. Production studios every Wednesday and yesterday I was introduced to something hilarious; Stuff White People Like. http://http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/
This website is hilarious and true! They have articles on a number of funny topics. My favorite was on "Funny or Ironic tattoos." I don't mind tattoos..as long as they aren't on me. My brother has a full sleeve down his right-arm and even extending to his knuckles dedicated to music. A passing fad? Maybe. But he's a 19 year-old kid living in Chicago playing in a band. I think he's cool as hell and the tattoos suite him perfectly. However, I CANNOT STAND emo kids (or scene kids as they are sometimes referred to). Sitting in coffee shops wearing knit hats talking about "deep and important things." I want to punch you in your beret. Seriously! Its like they want the ENTIRE world to know/think they are creative so they wear an apron around to outwardly express how creative and open they are. BARF! This article on tattoos really struck a cord with me because it exposed a disgusting trend. A finger mustache tattoo. Yup, emo kids are now tattooing a tiny mustache on their pointer finger so they can hold it under their nose and make it look like they themselves have a mustache. Okay, so maybe it was funny in theory but actually doing it? What are you going to say when your thirty-something and walk into a job interview? "Oh this..this is a mustache tattoo. I got it when I was nineteen so I could hold it under my nose in pictures and look like a tool." I understand that this point could be made for any variety of tattoos, but most people, at least the people I know have reasons/attachment to their tattoos. One of my friends has several tattoos in memory of his brother. They mean something to him and I highly doubt that anyone could honestly say that they are silly or pointless. If your already wearing a crochet hat and a t-shirt with the Rolling Stones on it and really feel its necessary to go that extra mile to make me really feel like we should never, ever meet then fine. Tattoo a stupid mustache on your stupid finger. But if I'm ever the hiring manager somewhere you would like to work someday you expect to be made fun of!!!

I <3 Jackrabbits

In a nail-biting game last night Baylor beat SDSU 60-58. The Jacks came out strong, showing the same offensive and defensive toughness they had during their previous game against TCU. Our three's, however, were not as strong and the reffing was crap. Baylor wouldn't have had more than 2 points during the majority of the first half had it not been for free-throws. They called everything they could on us...even when it didn't make any sense! Our girls fought back though staying just two-three points above Baylor the majority of the game. And claiming that ALL OF THE SUDDEN Rachel Allison was "too injured" to shoot her free-throw, even after she had been cleared to go back into the game was complete non-sense. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that she only shoots %50 from the free-throw line. In men's basketball, if you get injured in the play that gets the foul called you can say your too injured to play. But being put back in only to suddenly decide you can't take a shot that could determine your teams success is completely ridiculous. The announcers were even pulling for us and making comments about the injustices! I loved when they said "Hey, you know what? If one girl from SDSU fouls out there are 8 more who can play sitting right there." And he was right. I don't doubt that Aaron Johnston would have anything but complete faith in ALL of his players to hit solid free-throws, even if the game is on the line. Or to step-in for a fallen/fouled out teammate and succeed. At the end of the day I KNOW we are a better team. Baylor has made it through this tournament scraping by and getting lucky. I for one will cherish the day their lucks runs out. http://http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/recap?gameId=294000028

Jon minus Kate plus 8?

Rumors have been spreading that while staying with his injured mother Jon Gosselin ran around and partied with a bunch of under age's. If you watch the show you have seen the de-masculinizing treatment he is subjected to by his controlling wife. Although I have to admit, her crazy organized behavior seems neccasary at times in order to run a household with six toddlers. She can come off as a total bitch who doesn't think her husband can do anything right. In the season finale last night Kate admitted that she was "very happy" with the set-up of the show and how things were going while Jon was "very unhappy." The pressure of constantly having to be "Jon and Kate plus 8" is getting to him and he longs for normalcy. Kate enjoys having him work from home and being able to do all the activites that they do. In one of the first shows about their married life BEFORE the children Jon said that he wanted to wait to have kids while Kate wanted them immediatley. Kate says she remembers Jon "sowing his wild oats." Maybe Jon resents the kids a little? Its not like she rushed him into having one or two babies, but 8!! (Not that they were planned that way) I can't really fathom what it might be like to be a parent but I know its not something I want to be rushed into. Kate seem unconcered with Jon's unhappiness...wonder what next season will bring!!

Lady Jacks!-There is no "I" in South Dakota State.

Our jackrabbits came out swinging on Sunday night as they faced Texas Christian University in the first round of the NCAA. My favorite part of the game was definitely the commentary. They started out by saying that no one really knows that much about us then carried on and on for about an hour talking about what an amazing team we are!
We tied the three-point record and had a higher percentage of three's than two's at half-time. It's wonderful that we have so many girls who can shoot successful three's; Kristin Rotert, Jill Young, Macie Michelson. ESPN was also impressed with the number of assists. We had 24 at the end of the game, showing everyone that the reason we win is because we play like a TEAM. One of my closest friends is Kristin Rotert. She is a big reason why I am such a fan. Not only are these girls teammates but they are friends off the court. They live together, joke around and spend most of their free-time together. I remember one day Kristin and I were hanging out in the Wellness Center and decided to stop and watch the boys scrimmage. They were throwing the ball in anger and yelling at one another. Kristin said "We would NEVER be allowed to act that way. There is no way we could ever yell at each other like that." These are girls from around the mid-west that understand what it means to work together. That without everyone doing the best they can, they won't be successful. I can't wait to watch them play Baylor tonight!! GO BIG, GO BLUE, GO JACKS! http://http://scores.espn.go.com/ncw/boxscore?gameId=294000026

Pale is the new tan...duh!

As a fair skinned girl myself it is always a little depressing to see summer roll and around and for all my friends to become beautifully bronzen while the most pigment my skin sees is freckles. My mom assure me that they are adorable but we all know that moms are paid to say stuff like that. On tmz.com I found a gallery of fake and bakes that made me feel just fine about having "white" skin! http://http://photos.tmz.com/galleries/fake_n_bake Take a look at Elliot Mintz!! That's not even a tan..its like some horrible, explosion happened on his face! And George Hamilton should be the leathered face of some sunscreen..hellooo premature aging! Poor Brooke Hogan..its not her fault! Have you seen her mother!? Their "Same stars less color" photo gallery is a perfect example that bronze is not always beautiful. But who can really argue that Charlize Theoron is any less gorgeous regardless of her color?
In other news, Bob Dylan's neighbors are raising a "stink" about the portable toilet on his property causing nasty fumes to stink up their properites! Why would Bob Dylan need an outdoor toilet anyway?? Your amazing Bob Dylan but we have news for you..your shit DOES stink!
Celebrity Sober House was an amazing show that really showcased the ups and downs of addiction as a disease. Rodney King was by far my favorite housemate and remembering his journey still brings tears to my eyes. One housemate, Mary Carey, is not fairing so well. Tmz has a video of her drunkenly yelling, making out with her girlfriend and publically announcing that she is "not sober" I think the inability to keep your eyes open gave that one away Mary...

Girly-girl

I'd consider myself a girly-girl. Shopping is among one of my favorite activities and I love all magazines having to do with make-up, hair, shoes, etc. I like fashion but I defiantly wouldn't consider myself a slave to it. I'm fine in sweatpants and tennis shoes most days. I recently discovered Glamour magazines website. http://www.glamour.com/fashion/about/spring-trends I was looking for different hairstyles when I stumbled upon the pages of fashion advice for the upcoming spring. Now, I'd like to think I'm up-to-date when it comes to whats "in" and whats "out" but I really had no idea! There were polls about whether it was too early to stop wearing tights...tights!? Really!?? My memory of tights consist of my mom yelling at me to stop grabbing my crouch in church as I desperately tried to stop the crouch of the tights from sagging to my knees. They had pictures of jellies for summer trends! Painful, open sores and horrendously sweaty feet is all I re-call from these plastic nightmares. I love shopping, but I'm a thrifty girl. I adore Old Navy and Target. No matter how much money I make someday I don't believe it will ever be enough to drop $500 dollars on a pair of shoes. Another article on the site showed pictures of all the 2008 "fleeting" trends. Gladiator sandals was one of them and the pair that they showed cost $320!!!! With that price tag those shoes should be beyond timeless..my grandchildren should be able to wear them! I'll take Old Navy $5 flip-flops anyday thanks :)

Spring!!

Tool Academy Finale/Reunion

Oh, how I have enjoyed watching Tool Academy this past season! But it sadly came to end this past week. Josh and Ashely were the winning couple, which was deserving. I felt as though they were the only couple who sincerely tried to work past their issues and in the end, you could tell all they really had for each other was love. The finale was mushy and included their wedding-happily ever after blah, blah, blah. Now the reunion!! THAT was a true monkey shit-fight of emotions :) Tommy was exposed to having cheated on Krista. This is after Krista picked a fight with literally every other girl on the show and made fun of everyone's relationships-Karma, at its finest. Then man-whore Sean (Who started the show with one girl, then ended it with another) found out he is going to be a father! To a child who was conceived during a one night-stand at a gas station. I see mullets and Nascar in this kids future. Happily, the majority of the girls dumped their loser boyfriends and seemed more confident and happy with themselves. All is well that ends well. Farewell, Tool Academy!

Dancing with the "stars"

I've been a dancer all my life and it continues to be one of my favorite past-times. Although I had never watched "Dancing with the Stars" I kept hearing so much buzz about it I had to see what it was all about! I'm newly addicted!!!! My favs this season are: Shawn Johnson-Please this girl epitomizes all-American! She's adorable and I *heart* her. David Alan Grier-Though he is stuck with a humor-less partner (Kym Johnson) He is hilarious! He also thought put aside his jokes and performed very well. Melissa Rycroft-Nothing like picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and dancing your gorgeous butt off!! She had only two days to prepare and did AMAZING!! And finally- Steve Wozniak--Sure, sure he was awkward and a terrible dancer but you could tell he was having so much fun! And what did people expect? How many billionaire genius's do you know that can cha-cha???

We're going dancing...

Fresh off of spring break and there are already so many exciting things to discuss!! On the top of my list is the SDSU women becoming Summit League champs and scoring a spot at the NCAA "Big Dance!" The girls are causing quite the stir!! They were ranked 14th in the nation going into the Summit League play-offs and are the first team from South Dakota to go to the NCAA. I anxiously await the following days--GO JACKS!!!!

About Me

This is a short video about myself. I really enjoyed working on this and putting it together. I feel as thought I'm getting more comfortable with Final Cut Express and understanding the fundamentals better. I hope my projects continue to improve!
Enjoy!

Jimmy Fallon

I've always had a crush on Jimmy Fallon..from his early days at SNL I'd fallen in love with his geeky charm. So you can imagaine my amusement when it was announced that he would take over Conan O'Brians Late Night seat. I really enjoyed the first show! I thought it was cool that Tina Fey was one of his firsts guest, a collegue from his SNL days. Although I think his opening was a little rough, I think it was just because people weren't used to his comedy style/delivery. But he is none-the-less ADORABLE and I thought the "slow-jam" of the news was a clever idea but I'm not sure it will work week after week. We'll see though..I'll be watching!!

Kayne West's New gf

Pictures of Kayne West and his new chick have surfaced all over internet http://www.tmz.com/2009/03/02/kanye-west-girlfriend-stripper/
Is it really that shocking that a rapper would date a stripper??? I think not.

She's just being Miley..

I can't lie. I'm a 20 year-old who loves the crap out of Miley Cyrus music. I can't help myself! Its catchy and adorable and I think she is just such a little cutie. Now, I thought the whole open-back photo shoot incident was blown waaay out of proportion. She was just a fifteen-year old at the time and who honestly didn't know she had a back??? But has been some things in the press lately that are making Smiley Miley fall out of favor with me. (And no its not the race-eye pictures. Anyone else notice that everyone in that picture is doing the same thing??)
Its the fact that lil' sixteen year old Miley is dating a 21 year-old!! This isn't just slightly offensive or mildly gratuitous but full out ILLEGAL!!! I can't believe that protective Papa Cyrus hasn't stepped in on this...

Mischa Barton

Among the list of famous people I can't stand Mischa Barton definatley sits in my top five. This snotty stick-figure has a long list of pompus quotes that is enough to make anyone feel compelled to hit her over the head with a skillet. Examples ; "Being pretty and thin is hard ya know?? Lots of people want to make you the bad guy...make you have all these problems." Really Mischa?? Is it?? "I will only do serious roles. I don't want to be labeled as silly. I'm more mature than most people." More full of yourself too. ANYWAY..Now this bimbo has her own blog where she can talk and talk and talk about the burdens of being so hot. One of her blogs is about how the press is saying that she's too thin. (Ridiculous I know..I haven't seen anything press-worthy out of Mischa Barton since the O.C. and lets be honest...it was the O.C.) She goes on and on about how healthy she is and how it is " very unhealthy for young girls to read about and pay attention to."
But Mischa...aren't YOU the one constantly bringing up how thin you are??
BARF. Loathe her.
